"The problem that most people face is that they’re too close to their own problem to really see what's actually going on"
Coaching is not about handing out advice or telling you what to do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's about asking questions. Good questions. Questions that allow you to consider your habits in a new light.
When you keep repeating a habit, you often aren't asking good questions. In fact you usually ask unhelpful questions. Questions that keep you stuck like 'Why do I keep doing this? Why can't I figure this out?'
And you end up feeling like there's something wrong with you.
Constantly trying to "fix" your problems is exhausting and demoralizing.
Thing is, you don't need fixing, there's nothing wrong with you.
Instead, start by getting curious.
Changing the habit requires discovering why you started overeating in the first place.
It's because your brain learned that food is the solution to how you feel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whether it's deprived, bored, anxious, frustrated, rebellious, or something else. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So the next time the urge appears, start asking questions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What am I really desiring right now?
We aren't taught this skill. We're taught to avoid, distract, numb, eat, drink and push our feelings away.
And when they don't go away, the desire to check out and escape just deepens. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Open up to what's happening inside of you. ⠀
Harm doesn't come from drinking, or eating, or pushing how you feel away. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Harm comes from believing that you can't handle how you feel. Because all the restrictions in the world won't ever help you change that belief. ⠀⠀⠀
How do you start to acknowledge and make space for the feeling you've avoided for so long?
Start teaching your brain to stop ignoring how you feel.
You can’t ignore how you feel but you also can't judge what comes up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You need to make space for whatever you find so that you can learn how to tend to your feelings in a way that doesn’t create negative consequences in your life.⠀
That's where having a coach can help. They can help guide you through this entire process, taking you through each step as you are ready. They can provide personalised wisdom, perspective and clarity.
A coach comes from love and belief for who you want to be
in the future.
It's an hour a week where you focus on believing and making decisions for
the person you want to be and the life you want to create.
A coach challenges you to think differently than you've ever
thought. One single shift in thought can change your entire life. When you
have a coach, you have these shifts over and over and over. They
compound. They become entire belief systems. And when you change your
belief system, you change everything in your life.
Having a coach will change your life.
“Of all the things we can spend our money on, mental health needs to be at the top of our list… Not our car, our house, holiday, or entertainment. Our mental health determines how we feel, what we create, and how we perceive the world around us.” ― Brooke Castillo, The Life Coach School
